Zhiguang Electric"s Coota Solid-State Transformer Enables Next-Generation Energy Applications

On August 10, 2026, the 16th China International Energy Storage Conference (CIES 2026) opened in Hangzhou. Sun Kaifa, Chief Technical Expert at Guangzhou Zhiguang Electric Technology Co., Ltd. (“Zhiguang Electric”), delivered a keynote presentation titled “Coota Solid-State Transformers and Multi-Scenario Applications” at the High-Voltage Cascaded and Computing Energy Storage Forum. He highlighted the company’s technological advancements in solid-state transformers (SSTs) and its application-specific solutions, demonstrating new opportunities for the power and energy storage industries.


During his presentation, Sun focused on three rapidly growing application areas: AI data centers, ultra-fast charging networks, and source-grid-load-storage (SGLS). Zhiguang Electric’s Coota SST is designed to address the power requirements of these emerging applications.

SST + AIDC: A Smart Power Solution for AI Data Centers


AI data centers face several key power-related challenges, including multiple power conversion stages, long deployment cycles, large footprint necessary for transformers, as well as cooling challenges. Coota addresses many of the power challenges currently facing AI data centers since it enables highly efficient one-step conversion from 10kV AC to 800 V DC. Overall system efficiency exceeds 98.5%, representing an improvement of more than 8% over conventional solutions. The system reduces space requirements by more than 60%, shortens installation time by 75%, and reduces overall copper consumption by 80%, helping address power losses and thermal management challenges in high-power computing racks.

As an “energy router”, Coota enables millisecond-level coordination for the grid, renewable energy sources, energy storage, and computing loads. It supports islanded operation and virtual power plant dispatch by providing intelligent and reliable power support for high-power-density computing clusters such as AI data centers.

SST + Ultra-Fast Charging: An Integrated Solar-Storage-Charging Solution


Ultra-fast charging stations face challenges such as long power conversion chains, large site requirements, difficulties in expanding grid capacity, and low power factors under light-load conditions. Coota enables a flexible medium-voltage direct-connected ultra-fast charging network, providing a solution to many of these issues and allowing charging infrastructure to become a flexible and controllable resource for the power grid.

Coota is equipped with integrated interfaces for solar generation, energy storage, and charging to enable flexible coordination of energy flows between storage and the grid. This helps reduce grid connection capacity requirements, supports smooth expansion of MW-scale ultra-fast charging, and meets the requirements of next-generation large charging hubs with capacities of up to 10 MW.

SST+Source-Grid-Load-Storage (SGLS): A DC Core for Zero-Carbon Industrial Parks


Traditional SGLS systems face challenges including the fragmented integration and management of distributed resources, a high dependence on the power grid, and the high cost and low efficiency of long-distance power dispatch. To address these challenges, Zhiguang Electric specifically developed an integrated DC solution centered on the Coota SST.

By using a DC bus to connect the grid, loads, energy storage, and energy generation, Coota enables integrated management and significantly improves grid coordination efficiency by reducing AC power loops. Combined with an integrated, one-stop design, Coota enables faster deployment, a smaller physical footprint, and higher reliability for intelligent energy zero-carbon industrial parks.
