On June 30, the Guangdong Electric Vehicle Charging Infrastructure Association and Guangzhou Zhiguang Electric Co., Ltd. ("Zhiguang Electric") jointly hosted a seminar on the development trends of Solid-State Transformer (SST) technology and products. The event brought together more than 20 representatives from new energy enterprises and industry experts to exchange insights and discuss the future of the sector.
The seminar focused on key topics including integrated energy storage solutions for high-voltage ultra-fast charging stations, practical applications of the Coota Solid-State Transformer (SST), and technological advancements in the EV charging and battery swapping industry. Through in-depth discussions, participants strengthened collaboration between industry stakeholders and equipment developers, leveraging cutting-edge power electronics technologies to support the high-quality development of Guangdong's charging infrastructure and accelerate the implementation of the new power system and China's Dual Carbon goals.
1. Advancing Digital Energy Development and Showcasing Zhiguang's Industrial Strength

The visiting delegation first toured Zhiguang Electric's corporate exhibition hall, where they gained a comprehensive understanding of the company's more than two decades of innovation in the digital energy sector and its integrated industrial ecosystem. They also learned about Zhiguang's achievements in the localization of core power electronics technologies, digital energy transformation, and integrated generation-grid-load-storage solutions.
The visit demonstrated Zhiguang Electric's strong R&D capabilities, industrial implementation experience, and innovative development in the integration of energy and transportation, laying a solid foundation for further discussions on SST applications and future industrial cooperation.
2. In-Depth Technical Discussions on the Future of Charging and Energy Storage Integration
During the seminar, both parties exchanged professional insights based on the current development of Guangdong's charging industry, focusing on three key areas.
1) Core Value of the Coota Solid-State Transformer for Fast Charging and Energy Storage Applications

Drawing on Zhiguang's extensive project experience in new power systems, energy storage, and high-power energy conversion, company representatives presented "Smart Microgrid Solutions for Solar-Storage-Charging Integration and Application Case Studies" and "Flexible DC Solutions for Integrated Solar-Storage-Charging Systems Based on Solid-State Transformers (SSTs)."
The presentations highlighted practical implementation concepts for deploying SSTs in integrated energy stations and ultra-fast charging hubs along expressway service areas, providing association members with scalable and practical reference solutions for future projects.
2) Bottlenecks in Guangdong's Fast-Charging Industry and the Need for Technological Innovation

Zou Yalan, Vice President and Secretary General of the Guangdong Electric Vehicle Charging Infrastructure Association, introduced the province's development plans for charging and battery swapping infrastructure, expansion of the ultra-fast charging network, and policy directions supporting energy storage deployment.
She pointed out that large-scale fast-charging stations currently face several common challenges, including: High costs for distribution network expansion; Complex energy storage integration architectures; Limited land resources; Insufficient capability for coordinated management of multiple energy sources.
To address these issues, the industry urgently requires a new generation of integrated, high-power-density, and flexibly controllable power conversion equipment to transform charging stations into comprehensive solar-storage-charging integrated energy stations.
The Association also proposed working together with leading equipment manufacturers to develop standardized technical solutions and promote the inclusion of solid-state transformers as preferred power distribution equipment for charging stations.
3) Strengthening Industrial Collaboration to Accelerate Large-Scale SST Deployment

Both parties reached a consensus on enhancing cooperation across the industrial chain, jointly developing industry standards, and promoting demonstration projects.
Leveraging its industry platform, the Association will connect charging network operators, charging station investors, and energy storage system integrators, while Zhiguang Electric will contribute its expertise in solid-state transformer technology, system solutions, and R&D capabilities. Together, the two parties will advance cooperation in three major areas:
I. Develop demonstration sites featuring integrated solar-storage-charging systems based on solid-state transformers to establish benchmark fast-charging and energy storage projects in Guangdong and validate both technical and economic performance as well as operational reliability.
II. Jointly formulate industry technical standards and promote the development of group standards for applying solid-state transformers in charging infrastructure.
III. Establish regular technical exchanges, product promotion activities, and project matchmaking programs to strengthen communication between technology developers and market participants, accelerating the large-scale adoption of domestically developed solid-state transformers across Guangdong's charging industry.
3. Driving High-Quality Development of the Charging Industry Through Technological Innovation

Representatives from the Guangdong Electric Vehicle Charging Infrastructure Association stated that the seminar successfully established a platform connecting innovative power equipment manufacturers with the broader charging industry ecosystem.
As the "energy router" of the Energy Internet, the solid-state transformer is regarded as a key enabling technology for addressing current challenges in fast charging and energy storage. The Association expressed its expectation of further strengthening collaboration with Zhiguang Electric across industry, academia, research, and application to support the upgrading of Guangdong's charging and battery swapping infrastructure through independently developed power electronics technologies, ultimately building an efficient, low-carbon, and flexible urban charging energy network.
Zhang Ruihong, General Manager of Guangzhou Zhiguang Electric Technology Co., Ltd., stated that the company has consistently adhered to its development vision of "Innovating Digital Energy for a Carbon-Neutral Future." She emphasized that the Zhiguang Coota Solid-State Transformer represents not merely an equipment upgrade, but a fundamental transformation of the underlying power architecture for integrated charging and energy storage systems as well as generation-grid-load-storage applications.
Looking ahead, Zhiguang Electric will continue to foster an open platform for technical collaboration, working closely with industry associations and partners across the value chain to advance SST technology, accelerate commercial deployment, and cultivate a robust industrial ecosystem. Through continuous innovation in power electronics, the company aims to promote deeper integration between transportation and energy systems, supporting Guangdong's transition toward a greener, lower-carbon energy future.
