Recently, the Waneng Minfeng grid-forming standalone energy storage project, undertaken by Guangzhou Zhiguang Energy Storage Technology Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as “Zhiguang Energy Storage”), has completed the delivery of all equipment for its 35kV 200MW/800MWh grid-forming cascaded high-voltage energy storage system. The project has now officially entered the full commissioning phase, demonstrating Zhiguang Energy Storage’s efficient project execution capabilities and strong track record in delivering mature, deployable technologies.

Located in the Hotan region of Xinjiang, the Waneng Minfeng project serves as a benchmark “renewables + energy storage” project in Zhiguang Energy Storage’s northwest China strategy. It also represents a key achievement in strengthening collaboration with central state-owned enterprises and expanding into the northwestern energy storage market.

The grid-forming cascaded high-voltage energy storage system deployed in this project has been independently developed and manufactured by Zhiguang Energy Storage, with core technologies at an industry-leading level. It is specifically designed to adapt to Xinjiang’s high penetration of renewable energy, effectively addressing challenges such as insufficient grid stability, limited peak-shaving resources, and renewable energy curtailment.

As a key national clean energy base, the Hotan region boasts abundant wind and solar resources. However, the grid is characterized by low inertia and insufficient short-circuit capacity, placing high demands on grid-support capabilities. Zhiguang Energy Storage’s delivered system features advanced functionalities including active grid support, enhanced system inertia, and increased short-circuit capacity. It enables precise control of active and reactive power, low/high voltage ride-through, and frequency support—providing critical technical assurance for smooth renewable energy output and stable grid operation, while supporting regional green and low-carbon transition and energy structure optimization.

To ensure efficient delivery and smooth project execution, Zhiguang Energy Storage established a dedicated project team to coordinate all phases, including production, logistics, and installation. By adhering to standardized processes and overcoming challenges such as Xinjiang’s complex geography and long transport distances, the company successfully achieved on-time, high-quality, and full-scope equipment delivery.

At present, the on-site commissioning team is carrying out a series of tests in strict compliance with grid-connection testing specifications and industry standards, ensuring that all system performance meets design requirements and grid compliance criteria.

The completion of full delivery and transition into the commissioning phase of the Waneng Minfeng project not only highlights Zhiguang Energy Storage’s strong execution capabilities, but also serves as a testament to the maturity of its grid-forming cascaded high-voltage energy storage technology. As a key player in the grid-forming energy storage sector, this successful delivery further strengthens the company’s position within the supply chain of major central enterprises and lays a solid foundation for expanding into the northwest and nationwide energy storage markets.

Looking ahead, Zhiguang Energy Storage will continue to focus on advancing its grid-forming cascaded high-voltage energy storage technologies, while accelerating commissioning and grid connection of the Waneng Minfeng project to ensure it delivers tangible benefits at the earliest opportunity.
